In Pakistan, almost all gold jewellery is made in 21K or 22K. Both are real gold mixed with a small amount of other metals for strength. The difference is how much gold is in the mix — and that changes the colour, durability and price.
| 21K | 22K | |
|---|---|---|
| Gold content | 87.5% | 91.6% |
| Colour | Warm yellow | Deeper, richer yellow |
| Strength | Harder, holds detail and stones well | Softer, can bend or scratch more easily |
| Price per tola | Lower | About 4–5% higher |
| Best for | Everyday wear, detailed sets, stone settings | Traditional bangles, plain sets, heirloom pieces |
Why 21K is so popular in Pakistan
21K gives you most of the colour of 22K, at a lower price, with better strength for intricate work. It is the default for bridal sets and everyday jewellery at most Lahore jewellers.
When to choose 22K
Choose 22K if you want maximum gold content and that deep traditional colour — especially for plain bangles, karras and pieces you see as savings. Remember it is softer, so very fine designs may wear faster.
And 18K?
18K (75% gold) is the right choice for diamond and stone jewellery and for white gold, because it holds stones securely and resists scratching.

Is 21K gold real gold?
Yes. 21K is 87.5% pure gold; the rest is alloy for strength and colour.
Which has better resale value, 21K or 22K?
Resale is based on gold content, so 22K returns more per tola — but you also paid more for it. Making charges are generally not returned on resale.
